Whole Class Reading: PowerPoint

We have created an editable 29 slide PowerPoint linked to the book Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers.

We explore a range of fiction and non-fiction linked to the story as well as vocabulary, inference, and a guide of pages, teaching points, activities and questions linked to the book.

Main Focus: Alphabetical Order

This is a lovely reading activity for when you are teaching alphabetical order or looking to check the understanding of your class.

Your Year 1 / Year 2 children will place the words into alphabetical order and there are a few differentiated resources to challenge your class.

We have also included a blank resource at the end so your class can choose their own words from the passage.

Main Focus: Word Mat

This is a useful resource that encourages your KS1 class to use the word mat to complete the sentences in a cloze style activity.

We have included an activity that encourages your Year 1 \ Year 2 class to complete the sentences by adding in the words or adding in the pictures.

Main Focus: Phonics

In this activity, your class will read the passage and try to locate the different sounds within words.

This is a phonics activity linked to the book Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers and covers phases 3-6.

Main Focus: Story Sequencing

In this activity your class will sequence the story events into chronological order.

This is a useful task to be complete at the end of the story after a lot of discussion and work has been completed.

It is useful for your class to cut out the events and they can work and edit if they get it wrong.

Main Focus: Capital Letters and Full Stops

In this activity your class will add in the capital letters and full stops to complete the sentences.

We have also included an activity that your class must add in the names of the planets in the solar system.

Main Focus: Vocabulary Extension

This resource explores some of the lovely vocabulary that Oliver Jeffers uses in the story Here We Are.

Your class will look at simple synonyms of the words and place the new vocabulary into the sentences to complete them.

Main Focus: Word Class

This is a great reading activity if you are beginning to look at word classifications.

Your Year 2 class will read the passage and identify nouns verbs and adjectives. You can also take one focus i.e. nouns if you feel it would better suit your Ks1 class.

Main Focus: Adjectives

This resource focuses on adjectives used within the story.

Your class must read the passage and insert the adjectives into the correct spaces.

This is a useful activity to help your class use a lovely range of adjectives in context of the Here We Are story by Oliver Jeffers.

Main Focus: Comprehension

To finish off the story we have created differentiated comprehensions linked to the whole story.

Your class will answer the questions linked to the story to highlight their understanding.
