Main Focus: Word Mat & Cloze Activity

This activity is linked to the popular book Sulwe and is aimed at KS1 classes.

If you are teaching Sulwe as part of reading this is a useful resource. 

Your Year 1 / Year 2 class must use the words and pictures from the resource to complete the sentences. 

Your kids can also use this resource as a reference point for independent writing.

Main Focus: Capital Letters and Full Stops

This resource for Year 1 / Year 2 focuses on capital letters and full stops.

We have removed the punctuation from the sentences taken from the Sulwe book and your class must decide where the capital letters and full stops must go.

We have differentiated this activity for all of KS1. There are 6 different resources to choose from and they range from simple to more complex sentences.

Main Focus: Phonics

This is a phonics resource linked to Phase 3, Phase 4, Phase 5 and Phase 6. We have also included a blank document so you can choose any sounds you like.

Your class must read the passage from Sulwe carefully and find the sounds within the words.

Main Focus: Alphabetical Order

This activity focuses on alphabetical order. Your Ks1 class will place the underlined words into alphabetical order.

We have differentiated this activity to enable you to choose your level of difficulty and complexity.

Main Focus: Adjectives

This activity focuses on adjectives and is aimed at Year 1 and Year 2.

Your class must read the passage and use the word bank to complete the sentences.

They will then complete an adjective activity to describe Sulwe.

Main Focus: Questions and Answers

This activity encourages your class to use information in answers to write appropriate questions linked to the Sulwe story. We have differentiated this resource so you have flexibility to choose which best suits your Ks1 class.

We have also included a matching activity to allow your children to match the questions to the answers.

Main Focus: Story Sequencing

In this activity for Sulwe, your class must place the events into chronological order.

It would be best to cut out the passages and allow your class to order them and should they be incorrect, allow them to reorder them.

Main Focus: Vocabulary Extension

This is an activity aimed at Year 1 and Year 2 and the aim is to explore the vocabulary used in the Sulwe story.

Your class will look at adding the vocabulary into the context of the story and then explore synonyms for the words.

Main Focus: Comprehension

This is a comprehension to be completed once you have read the whole story of Sulwe with your KS1 class.
