The Great Chocoplot

Jelly and her family live in Chompton-on-de-Lyte, where everyone loves a Blocka Choca bar or two.

So when the end of chocolate is announced, she can’t believe it. Determined to investigate, Jelly and her gran follow a trail of clues to a posh chocolate shop and its owner, the pompous Garibaldi Chocolati. Gari’s suspiciously smug, despite his failing business and yucky chocolate. Is it really the chocopocalypse, or is there a chocoplot afoot?

Main Focus: Comprehension – Chapter 1

This is a comprehension linked to Chapter 1 of ‘The Great Chocoplot’ and is aimed at lower Key Stage 2.

To engage and encourage your class to think about what they have read, we have created a variety of questions related to the chapter.

Main Focus: Vocabulary Extension Chapter 2-3

This is a vocabulary extension based on chapter 2 and 3 of ‘The Great Chocoplot’.

Read chapters 2 and 3 with your class and discuss the following words…

pungent, maiden, mosaic, attempting, dog-eared, reclining, accompanied, aroma, immaculate, admiration, guaranteed, weighty, nostalgic, illuminated, delicate, bound, laboratory & luxuriously

Once the chapters have been read and words and meanings discussed, your class can complete our vocabulary resource. The children will use the word bank to complete the sentences.

This whole class reading resource focuses on inverted commas.

This will help your class in recognising inverted commas and accurately inserting them when required. All passages are taken from Chapter 5 of the book.

Main Focus: Verbs Chapter 6

A verb is a ‘doing’ or ‘action’ word. In the following sentences taken from Chapter 6, your class will underline a verb and then write their own sentences underneath, using the same verb.

Main Focus: Alphabetical Order Chapter 8

This activity focuses on chapter 8 of ‘The Great Chocoplot’ and alphabetical order.

Your LKS2 class must place the highlighted words into alphabetical order after reading the passage.

This literacy resource has been differentiated four ways, with different levels of difficulty.

Main Focus: Apostrophes – Chapters 9 and 10

This punctuation activity focuses on apostrophes using chapter 9 and 10.

Your class will identify where the apostrophes need to go within the short sentences and determine whether they have been used to show possession or for a contraction.

Main Focus: Suffixes – Chapter 11

This resource helps your class develop understanding of the suffix -ing and the rules when using it.

Your class will use the table to sort these words that can end in the suffix -ing. The words can all be found in chapters 11 of ‘The Great Chocoplot’.

Main Focus: Finding Evidence Chapters 12-14

We have written a number of statements that are based on chapter 12 and 14 of the book for your KS2 class.

Your class will need to find evidence from the chapters to support the statements provided. If they can’t find any evidence they must write, ‘No evidence found.’

Main Focus: Synonyms Chapter 15

This resource focuses on synonyms and chapter 15 of the book.

Synonyms are words which have the same or similar meanings. We can use synonyms to make our writing more interesting. Your class will choose a synonym to replace the word in brackets or they will draw lines to match the word to one of its synonyms.
